Emma Bombeck had a book whose title captivated me as a young child. If Life Is a Bowl of Cherries, What Am I Doing in the Pits? I guess back then, I just thought she was really funny and captured the reality of how people sometimes feel when life doesn’t quite go as planned.
As many of you know, we made the great leap of faith and have been building a home above Eagle Idaho. It’s been quite a journey of many twists and turns, and everything was all set for the final departure. We organized the professional movers, packed up our California lives and two large Golden Doodles. We signed loan documents, wired all the money, and were promised the Certificate of Occupancy no later than Wednesday February 25th. The day before the movers were due to truck up to Idaho, we learned that inspections were still delayed and the house wasn’t going to close until Thursday or Friday the 26th. Our realtor asked if we could delay the movers…No! Do you know how hard it is to solidify a moving company date out of state? So we started negotiations with the builder to at least allow the professional movers to put our belongings in our large RV garage. The other option was to find storage and then have to hire a second moving company to move all our stuff the next day into the house. Ugh! The builder was kind enough to allow our garage as storage.
So we had to find a hotel that accommodated our huge dogs while we waited. Friday close was guaranteed…at least that’s what we were told by the builder’s project manager. Yet the filing with the county for the Certificate of Occupancy needed to happen before noon in order for the loan to be recorded on the East Coast Treasury. So you know where I’m going with this…I’m writing this from our My Place hotel, one that was dog friendly and where we have been the past 3 nights.
The house is once again expected to close today, Monday March 1st. Meanwhile, I had to reschedule our internet install, and the blind company installation. Also, my hubby and I both took Wednesday through Monday off work, anticipating 5 full days of moving before returning to our busy work schedules. So if we close, we will essentially be camping in our home as we won’t have much time to get our belongings in before the weekend.
So amongst all this chaos, here is the gratitude and the joy we are finding. Our goldendoodles have weathered the transition and hotel living quite well. We have had more time to get my office dialed in for clients on Tuesday. We have spent time shopping…lots of shopping, buying new fun things for the house. We were able to measure all the cupboards and pre-cut all the drawer/cupboard lining so we are ready to go when we get our keys. We have met so many of our incredible new neighbors who have offered to help us move our furniture inside since the movers weren’t allowed to. We have embraced the adventure, living out of suitcases, eating Krispy Creme donuts instead of healthy nutra bullets, and enjoying inside dining at restaurants. I am also on a waiting list for my second Pfizer vaccine as I was scheduled to get that in California this Wednesday. So there are always blessings.
Oh and the house is absolutely gorgeous…so in the end we will be very happy.
