EMDR – Recent Traumatic Event Protocol
Have you experienced a severe car accident, personal injury, witnessed a death, rape, or other traumatic event which has left you feeling anxious and unable to engage in normal life activities? Then the Recent Traumatic Event Protocol or R-TEP might be right for you.
Events that occurred less than 4 months ago, have not had time to consolidate in the brain yet, and memories are in fragmented pieces. R-TEP can greatly reduce the probability of this event leading to Post Traumatic Stress.
How R-TEP Works?
It takes approximately 3 months for an experience to be fully consolidated as a single event. EMDR R-TEP will target each aspect of the traumatic event separately. Each fragment of the event is assessed for its own Triggers, Images, Cognitions, Emotions, and Sensations within the body.
- Clients will be asked to provide a narrative of the events occurring before, during and after the traumatic event while administering slow tapping.
- Then they will search the sequence of the entire event for points of disturbance, stopping at the most disturbing point first, then the next, etc.
- Once all points of disturbance are identified, we will process each fragment separately, starting with the worst or most disturbing point.
- After all points of disturbance have been desensitized, we will proceed with the rest of EMDR’s Standard 8-Phase Protocal.
Clients who receive R-TEP within 3-4 months of the traumatic event usually find complete resolution of symptoms within 1-2 sessions. These sessions are usually 90 minutes to 2 hours.
